Hi, my name is Mark Mayo
I am the founder, owner and CEO of 601MEDIA LLC, in business since 1992.

I am an Independent Creator, or Indie Maker, I literally do and create everything myself. From financing to building my own equipment to everything else. On the side of content I create AI researched articles for the following websites: 601MEDIA, Content Publisher Academy, Survival On Demand, Host Screamer, Packet Buzzard, Saltwater Pulse, CB Fishing, WB Fishing. I also manage the frontend and backends along with hosting for an array of client website services. I especially like creating graphics, video, 3D, VXF, motion graphics, audio, along with creating how-to videos to help others.

Over the years I have tried a ton of different ideas to become a self sufficient entrepreneur and gained a lot knowledge from it. One thing I learned is business is a completely separate thing from any talents I might have. The idea of “if I build it, they will come” didn’t work for me. So I had to learn a lot about a subject I feel is very boring, and that’s business. At the core I build stuff, I fix stuff, and I create stuff, I don’t necessarily enjoy planning or doing paper work. But that’s exactly what’s needed to succeed.

I am a huge advocate for Self Study and Continuing Education! On a day to day basis, my goal is to learn at least one thing new.

I started 601MEDIA in 1992.

In the early 80’s, working full time as a drivability technician at a South Florida GM Dealership, I gathered the pieces of what was to become 601Media. By the end of 1999 I was lucky enough to change careers as I landed a full time job as a Systems Integrator at a Hi-End Digital Video Equipment Dealer. After 20 years of working in nasty, greasy, hot conditions I very happily walked away to AC filled offices located in the North End of Palm Beach County in beautiful South Florida. That marked the beginning of an accelerated period where I dug deep to gain more knowledge.

My backstory of how I developed an interest in computers and computer graphics:

Interest sparked: At the end of the 70’s and in the early 1980’s General Motors was developing an automotive emissions system called CCC, Computer Command Control, more recently referred to as OBDI. This system was designed to deal with excessive tailpipe emissions in order to meet government regulations and growing environmental regulations. At that time I was a ‘Drivability Technician’ at a GM dealership and I received a lot of training in electronics and analog to digital signal processing. I had a background as an electronics hobbyist so the new training came easy for me. I also brought home drivability manuals that were 4 inches thick, no joke, and proceeded to learn everything detail I could.

A long hard road: I wasn’t able to afford to go to a good school. While earning only a modest income, with a Wife and Daughter, and the owner of a 35 year old fix-it-upper house, not much income was budgeted toward hobbies or education. To feed my interest I made due with buying used, broken, non operating computer equipment. I also salvaged discarded computers from any where I could find them, mostly garbage piles.

Getting traction: So with this new(to me) junk I created my own education. I started programming on a Timex Sinclair, the keyboard was so small I had to use the eraser end of a #2 pencil to type on the tiny keyboard. I repaired personal computers (PC’s) from the IBM 8086, when online was a Wildcat BBS dialup connection and zmodem was the hot protocol. Around 1987 I purchased a couple of used 060 accelerated Commodore Amiga 2000’s that came with a SuperGen genlock, and a DCTV adaptor- which had the ability to output 24bit graphics to a NTSC monitor. I fell in love with the beautiful backlit graphics. Around that time I also got a used copy of Real 3D, a CAD like software. Soon after that I purchased a 2nd hand DPS PAR capture card(Personal Animation Recorder) with a Time Base Corrector. Next came the software Imagine 3D and Razor Editor. I fell in love all over again with digital video. I soon moved on to IBM clones for their raw rendering power(speed) and started building very early IBM CCIR 601 4.2.2 10bit digital video editing systems, yes IBM, not Mac. I learned about an inexpensive Vocational School and attended their Television Production Classes for about a year. My passion for video and PC’s ultimately landed me a job as a Systems Integrator of Discreet Logic edit* Targa 3000 & Digisuite Video Editing Systems supplying Television Studios, Post Production facilities and Special Effects houses throughout Florida. I then scratch built for myself a monster dual proc powerhouse and installed a DPS Perception 10bit capture card, Lightwave 3D, Premiere Pro, and After Effects. Being told “it could not be done” I designed an early Networked Video Server. I called it my Render Farm and used it for production in the early days of Magnum Video and then 601MEDIA. I went on to supply years of post production services and digital video equipment to independent video producers throughout South Florida.

Fast forward to today: It’s been over 40 years now, time really does fly by. Today I focus on building my business and helping others while keeping my eye on what’s coming in the very near future, like Artificial Intelligence(AI). If I can help just a few self motivated people by giving back something I’ve learned- I’m all in.
