Meta Testing “Series”, Turning Reels Into Episodic Content
Meta is testing a new “Series” feature for Instagram and Facebook Reels, giving creators a way to organize short videos into connected episodes.
Instead of viewers finding individual Reels randomly, Series lets creators group new and existing videos into one collection. Each collection gets a dedicated page on the creator’s profile, where viewers can watch episodes in order and continue where they stopped.
The feature could change how people use short-form video. Reels traditionally focus on fast scrolling and quick entertainment. Series encourages viewers to return for longer stories, tutorials, challenges, educational content, and other multi-part formats.
For example, a creator publishing a 10-day cooking challenge could place all 10 Reels inside one Series. People who discover a single episode can open the full collection, save it for later, and follow future episodes.
Meta is currently testing Series with selected creators who already produce episodic content. The company has also confirmed that it is exploring possible ways to monetize the feature, although it has not announced specific plans.
The strategy also puts Meta closer to TikTok, which introduced its own Series product in 2023.
For creators and brands, Meta’s experiment signals an important shift: short-form video may increasingly become structured, repeatable programming rather than isolated posts.
